Bling-a-ling

I simply LOVE big earrings!

This infatuation began in the most unlikeliest of places at a very young age. Yes, that's right, Pat from Eastenders and her giant baubles. They pulled me in like a light to a moth, the array of beading, sequins, flitter, metals and jewels being a wonderous place to explore. Having collected vintage earrings over the years, I now own three stacked boxes full of the items and am always on the hunt for more at vintage fairs and shops around the UK and on Ebay.

This blog post does indeed relate to modern fashion trends, as recently we have seen a resurgance in the big hoop, 'chav' earrings. I know, as I purchased the hugest, tackiest pair of silver hoops at the weekend for a bargain £1.50 from Primark in Westfield. A staple of the 1980s and 1990s, the hoop earring became popular with many of my fellow school friends, particularly donned with GAP shirts and those flarey horrid skater trousers.

However, it is thanks to celebs like Beyonce, Jessie J and up-and-coming fashion icon Rita Ora, the hoop earring has seen a revival and can be worn nowadays with the most glamorous of evening-wear....

Fusing glamour with that street edge is what these ladies do best and offers ample amounts of inspiration this summer, particularly for those on a budget. The high street takes their cue from the designer twist on this age old style, with the new generation of hoop earrings coming in all shapes and sizes, even fusing gold and silver - a key trend this year and various jewels and ornamentation....

Take inspiration from the SS 2012 catwalk and wear large, dominating hoops in bronze or gunmetal silver with soft chiffons or strong tailoring. Designer styles can be found on the high street, with my particular favourites including the large gold hoops from Primark and a silver and gold bamboo style hoop from Miss Selfridge. Below I am also wearing my new silver hoops last weekend, a bargain £1.50 from Primark. The bold magenta lipstick really set off the metallic hoops well I found too along with my geometric print dress and gothic bangles...
